Shazam! Pow! Wait. What?!

Robert Downey jrJaxson Denno’s mom told him that she was going to take him to meet Iron Man. She probably oversold the invitation, though, because Jaxson got himself expectantly worked up, eager to meet such a famous superhero. He was beyond excited, actually, and could hardly be contained in his car seat as his mother drove him to the movie set near their home in Massachusetts. She had read that Robert Downey, Jr., was filming a movie nearby, and thought that she could swing by and see some of the excitement and fanfare that take place around the making of a movie. Maybe they’d even see the famous actor milling about, getting ready for his close-up, or jumping off a building. How exciting! And wouldn’t her 18-month old son love a chance to see Iron Man up close!? Upon arrival, she put him in a stroller, worked her way over through the crowd and, as luck would have it, came upon the actor meeting some of his fans. Continue reading

Exciting Exponential Expansion

world tourAbout a week ago, the residents at SummerWood Senior Living apartments in Chanhassen welcomed a touring choir from, yes, you guessed it, Family of Christ. Our very own Family of Christ Singers, led by Ron Larson and Mary Renz, went on what they called a “World Tour” that had only one stop on its itinerary. The choir members brought treats with them, mingled with residents in the community room, and then performed their ‘greatest hits’ for the very appreciative senior citizens in attendance. Fare for AllI wish to use this week’s blog to tell you about a new program that the CIA (Christians in Action) team has been exploring. In particular, Erin Kassebaum, our co-chair of that team, has attended meetings and is now ready to go to the grand opening of the Chaska branch of Fare For All which is being held at Crown of Glory Lutheran Church, 1141 Cardinal Street, Chaska. This effort is connected to the Emergency Food Network and benefits that group, which in turn benefits many area food shelves.

Sometimes, as we get busy and active in our own local church, we need helpful reminders that the church also exists on a larger basis, like our regional synod with its 155 participating congregations … and then, on an even larger basis, the national ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America) with 4 million members … and, beyond that, the worldwide Christian community with its 2 billion adherents.
