He spoke not a word … well, maybe just a few

Long lineLook at this long line! Last Monday morning, on my pastor’s day off, I decided to drop in quickly (ha!) to JC Penny to buy a couple of Christmas presents, and ended up in this awful line that stretched the length of the store.

Though I do some of my shopping online, I still feel the need to get out there and physically seek a real-life present for someone. Somehow it is more meaningful if I actually go hunt for it in the wild. Continue reading

Meanderings at the mall

I spent my Monday (pastor’s day off) at the mall in St. Cloud, because I needed some recall work done on our family’s Toyota Rav4, and I figured I should take it back to where I purchased the vehicle years ago. It was to be a 4-hour repair job that ended up taking 6.5 hours. They had an elderly gentleman shuttle me from the dealership to the mall so I could do some Christmas shopping while I bided my time.

Now, it has been quite a while since I’ve spent so much time in a mall. I mean years! We do so much online shopping now, or make quick trips into a Kohl’s or a SuperTarget. But here I was, dropped off at the mall at 9 am, an hour before most stores were even open. I got a nice big Caribou Mocha Latte Monkey Paw Steamer with light whip and choco shavings, then sat down in a comfy chair to make calls and write out a few notes. I ended up writing down some meanderings for this pondering that very day, while shoppers streamed around me. Continue reading
