Un-masking the gorill-a our dreams!

Culver's gorillaOne of our intrepid staff members has been quite a good sport in allowing herself (or might it be ‘himself’) to be photographed in a gorilla costume all around Chanhassen. We’ve had fun posting these pictures on the church’s Facebook site as a way of drumming up interest in the silent auction, which takes place this very Sunday throughout the morning. You can bid on a Florida vacation, a BBQ grill, large stuffed animals, a golf package, a massage, some homemade schnapps and, yes, even a gorilla suit. On the Facebook comments to these pictures, folks have tried to guess who is in the costume, and I know some have thought Leann, while others figured it could be Greg. A number of people assumed it’s me. One person asked Jeanne if it’s her, but nobody asked Kristie, or Jolene, or Lindsey, or any of the rest of the staff, so far as I know.

But it isn’t me! Ha ha! Continue reading

Cold shower…warm support

ice bucketBecause my wife and I were called out by our son, Leif, to take the ice bucket challenge this summer, I got to douse my spouse with ice cold water poured from our deck down to where she was gardening below. Now that was a good time, good memories! Beth got me back, though, by attacking me with ice cold water during my shower, and the racy, much-too-revealing video of this pastor was put on Facebook — tastefully done from the chest up, so not too many worries there. Except that Teri Burns told me the next day that she really would have preferred not seeing her pastor in the shower. I’ve always said that Facebook is much too revealing! Continue reading

Financial Peace University

FPUWe welcome our guest blogger, Dick Braun:

What would a world look like if everyone had a spirit of generosity? What would church (God’s people) look like if every Christian had a generous spirit? What would I be like if I always lived like I had a spirit of generosity? Ever wonder if this is even possible in our world? Some folks believe it is, and Dave Ramsey, a well-known speaker and radio personality, is doing everything in his power to change the world. Gandhi said if we want to see change in the world it has to begin in our own spirit. Do you believe that? I do. Continue reading

Wide awake…and still dreaming

jugglingWith all the fall start-ups, my brain has had trouble shutting down this week. In fact, early Tuesday morning, both Beth and I woke up a full hour before the alarm clock was supposed to go off, and both of us lay awake with many things racing through our minds. She was thinking about all the students soon to arrive in her classes, and all her lessons and plans and curriculum issues. I was rolo-dexing through my mind with high school issues for the daughter and college activities for the sons, church meetings, stewardship, rain gardens, not to mention the Revolutionary War illustration that might make it into this week’s sermon. Whew! Continue reading
