Jesus/Josh is Coming! Jesus/Josh is Coming!

Yes, if you look at the calendar, Advent is upon us and we are once again getting excited for Christmas. “Prepare the way of the Lord!” (Luke 3:4)  I’ve almost heard these same words, and sensed this same excitement level, for our new senior pastor, Josh Nelson. We are excited, and rightfully so. It’s been almost two years since Pr Nate announced his retirement, and we are eager to welcome our new permanent senior pastor. In the midst of our excitement I just want to take a moment to remind all of us what this season of Advent is about … getting ready and preparing our hearts. How do we prepare ourselves for Pastor Josh?

Here are just a few thoughts that have come to mind … in no particular order…

  1. Goodbyes are not easy – we need to continue to pray for Josh and his family as they say their goodbyes.
  2. Pastor Josh is not Jesus – and nobody should have to be placed on that pedestal.
  3. Pastor Josh and his family have probably changed over the past twelve years. I know that my family has changed, and so has Family of Christ!
  4. Many people at FoC don’t know Pastor Josh, and the rest of us who do remember him need to give others the opportunity to develop their own relationships over time.
  5. Goodbyes are not easy – we need to continue to pray for the members of Spirit of Joy as they begin the process of finding their new senior pastor.

Yes, Advent is coming, Jesus is coming, and so is Pastor Josh!!

“This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.”  (Psalm 118:24)

Blessings to all at this time of Thanksgiving and Advent,

~ Kris Spangrud, Family of Christ Finances
